SIS undefeated so far in MS soccer

Saipan International School remained undefeated in Group B of the middle school division of the 2022-2023 NMIFA-PSS Interscholastic Soccer League.

They kept their squeaky clean mark after a 10-0 whipping of Tanapag Middle School 2 last Tuesday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.

The win put Geckos up 3-0 in the standings, while the Tatagas still have no wins to show for after three games.

SIS’ Moshe Sikkel slipped past the goalie just four minutes into the game and scored a total of four goals.

After Sikkel’s second goal, he was followed by a barrage of attacks to the net throughout the first half of the game by his teammates Taiga Namai-Scoggins, Leonard Delemarle, and Nason Wessel that pegged the score at 7-0.

The Tatagas scurried on and fought until the bitter end, but were not able to put pressure on the goalie to score a single goal.

The Geckos, on the other hand, bagged three more goals in the second half, resulting in the 10-0 final score.

The Gecko lineup includes Aiden Camacho, Dean Duenas, Daniel Joab, Theo Joab, Yutaro Kitagawa, Taiga Namai-Scoggins, Landon Pudney, Keoni Ruszala, Moshe Sikkel, Nason Wessel, Leonard Delemarle, Sean Park, and Akeen Edvalson.

MCS 4, HMS-1 1 Mount Carmel School doused Hopwood Middle School 1’s try for a second win, defeating them, 4-1, in the second middle school game of the day.

With this win, the Knights are at 2-1, while the Hilitais are going the other way at 1-2.

The first half went by swiftly as the boys on either side could not slip one past the goalies. Finally, in the 22nd minute, the Knights found a hole in the Hilitais’ defenses and punctured through a goal courtesy of Akoni Matsumoto.

The Hilitais tried to set up a counterattack but it didn’t come as soon as they’d hoped as they only retaliated toward the end of the game thanks to Branson Santos.

By this time, the Knights had already scored three more goals, which set them up for the win, 4-1.

The Northern Mariana Islands Football Association coordinates the 2022-2023 NMIFA-PSS Interscholastic Soccer League along with the Public School System Athletic Program.
