SIS draws with SSHS; MCS takes lead in high school soccer

SAIPAN International School escaped defeat in the opening game of the NMIFA-PSS Interscholastic Soccer League high school division by drawing against Saipan Southern High School, 1-1, Thursday last week at the NMI Soccer Training Center.

SSHS played aggressively in the first half of the match and managed to catch SIS by surprise when Mark Patubo found the back of the net to give his team the lead, 1-0.

But SIS quickly recovered with a more defense-focused strategy to successfully neutralize SSHS’ offense.

In the second half, SIS gave SSHS a taste of their own medicine by playing aggressively. SIS eventually broke through with Ian Song delivering to even the score, 1-1.

Both teams went all out and there were nail-biting attempts to score, but none were successful and the game ended in a draw.

Mount Carmel School, for its part, took the division lead after Marianas High School JV handed an easy win to MCS via forfeit.

But they still played a match with MCS winning 3-0.
