Shirley’s upsets Southern United 2-0

SHIRLEY’S Football Club now shares the top spot with Southern United Football Club in the Flores-Péé Luwal (Intermediate “A”) of the Dove Women’s League after a stunning victory against SUFC Sunday at the NMI Soccer Training Center. Shirley’s established control right from the start with constant pressure as they overwhelmed SUFC within the first two minutes thanks to Stephanie Lagunero whose goal gave Shirley’s a 1-0 lead. The rest of the second half was filled with back-and-forth action with SUFC aiming to even the score. However, Shirley’s did enough to protect their end before halftime. Shirley’s then picked up where they left off during the second half, going for a swift attack that once again caught SUFC off-guard as Mikayla Lopez slipped through for the goal and a 2-0 lead. SUFC tried their best to get back into the game but Shirley’s was comfortably ahead and was focused on defense. Shirley’s and SUFC now share first place in the team standings with three wins each and one loss. MP United vs Paire Against the Paire Football Club, MP United Football Club eked out a win, 1-0. It was midway through the second half when MP United's Somia Quan connected the winning goal. (An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that the game ended in a draw.)
