Tatagas, Hilitais on a roll in girls soccer

The Tanapag Middle School Tatagas and Hopwood Middle School Hilitais are on a roll in the 2022-2023 NMIFA-PSS Interscholastic Soccer League after winning their games on Tuesday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.

The Tatagas slipped past Dandan Middle School, 3-2, while the Hilitais found the goal multiple times against the Napu Riders for a 8-2 victory.

Xyriel Pascual broke through the net 15 minutes into the first half as both teams struggled to get their footing. Silence accompanied the setting sun, while the Tottots and Tatagas battled it out on the field until Pascual found an opening once again in the 21st minute.

The first half came and went and there was still no reply from the Tottots while the Tatagas’ Hailey Benavente managed to score one more goal for a 3-to-nothing lead.

Then, when it seemed like the Tottots would pack it up and go home empty-handed, Jahsmin Ramon maneuvered the ball for a goal in the 40th minute. Things were picking up for the Tottots as the Tatagas were slowing down as Ramon made contact with the net again four minutes later, closing the gap by one point.

However, even with attempts at the goal before time ran out, the Tottos could not get past the Tatagas anymore and settled for the L.

In the earlier Hilitais-Napu Riders game, it was goals galore for the lizards as almost each attempt at the net stuck.

Though the Napu Riders’ Selena Atalig drew first blood just seconds into the game, the Hilitais cleats were more clearly ball magnets. Atalig scored both goals for the team.

HMS’ Yelynn Ha broke through in the 14th minute tying up the game and just four minutes later, teammate Alyssa Borlongan took the lead with a goal.

Ha ended up with two goals while Borlongan took it upon herself to get the most goals again with four. Kay Ann Costales contributed two goals.

The Hilitais are on top of the standings with 3 wins and 1 draw; TMS are at 2 wins and 1 draw; the Geckos still have 1 win and 2 draws; FMS is at 1 win and 3 losses; DMS is at 1 win and 2 loss; while the COVMS are still at 3 losses.
