Soccer: Southern United, Kanoa notch wins in U16 Youth League
THE Southern United Football Club and the Kanoa Football Club are off to a strong start in the U16 Girls Division of the NMI Football Association 2022 Spring Youth League after earning separate victories Saturday at the NMI Soccer Training Center.
Southern United FC performed flawlessly as they completely silenced MP United Football Club, 6-0.
SUFC controlled the pace early in the game as they filled the first six minutes with a handful of shot attempts. MPU stood their ground and was able to shift momentum, but as time progressed, they were worn down and eventually left cracks in their defense.
At the 9th minute mark, SUFC broke through with precision ball movement and found Pia Newakl for the last touch to hand her team the upper hand, 1-0.
The constant pressure continued to work in SUFC’s favor as they scored two more goals before the end of the first half. Summer Manahane connected the second goal of the day at the 19th minute mark while Rizza Relucio followed up with a goal of her own a minute later to give SUFC a comfortable 3-0 lead.
MPU, for their part, remained scoreless. As for SUFC, they kept the momentum burning at a steady pace, adding three more goals in the second half.
Newakl continued to take the spotlight as she dug MPU’s grave deeper with two consecutive goals at the 32nd and 35th minute marks while Relucio added the icing on the cake with her second make at the 47th minute mark as SUFC cruised to an easy victory, 6-0.
Kanoa vs Paire
The Kanoa Football Club was the second team to taste victory with a dominating win against Paire Football Club 1.
KNFC swiftly gain control as the scoring duo, Kaithlyn Chavez and Audrey Castro, proved to be more than what PFC could handle. Chavez ignited the run at the 5th minute mark while Castro took over the remainder of the first half with two goals for a 3-0 spread.
KNFC could not be cooled down as they prolonged their onslaught with Chavez and Castro adding two more goals at the 26th and 29th minute marks.
But PFC did not go down without a fight. Paire’s Beatrix Gross managed to break her team’s silence by scoring at the 32nd minute.
However, that was the only PFC goal made as Kanoa’s Chavez, Castro and Ye Ha unleashed a flurry of goals to win the match with a bang, 8-1.
