Shirley’s, MP United win opener


Shirley’s Football Club and MP United Football Club had winning debuts in the season-opening games in the Dove Women’s Spring League 2022 Sunday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.

Shirley’s outclassed Paire Football Club-1 in the Intermediate Division, 5-2, while MP United nipped Kanoa Football Club, 1-0.


Jhaza Mirano led Shirley’s victory in the season kick-off after firing a pair of goals. She found her target right in the opening minute of the match and got her second goal in the 30th. Three other players scored for Shirley’s with Kathryn Sablan giving the team’s its second goal in the seventh minute and Mikky Vargas and Angelica Carreon delivering the last two after hitting the board in the 40th and 55th minute, respectively.

Pyper Liske-Clark made both goals for Paire-1, nailing the first one in the 27th minute off a penalty shot and the second in the 42nd.

In the other game in the division, Moriah Sablan registered the lone goal in the match in the 48th minute to hand MP United the win in its first game of the season.

Matches in the Intermediate Division will resume tonight with Southern United Football Club taking on TanHoldings Football Club in the 7:10pm match and Matansa Football Club battling Paire-2 at 8:25pm. Then this Sunday, Matansa will return to the pitch to challenge Southern United in the 6:15pm tiff, while Shirley’s will go for win No. 2 when it faces TanHoldings at 7:30pm.

Meanwhile, the Novice Division also had its season-opening games last Sunday with MP United-2, Kanoa, and Paire making it to the win column.

MP United and Kanoa pulled off similar 1-0 triumphs over Matansa and TanHoldings, respectively, while Paire dominated Shirley’s, 5-1.
