Hopwood dominates Mt. Carmel

Hopwood Middle School pounced in on Mt. Carmel School, 8-1, to take its second win in as many games in the boys division of the NMIFA-PSS Interscholastic Soccer League 2021-2022.
Mark Costales stood out in easy victory after scoring a hat-trick, making all his three goals in the first half of the one-sided game last Tuesday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville. Costales recorded his first goal in the sixth minute and the last two in the 10th and 16th. Five of his teammates backed Costales, as Paul Lizama, Jyro Cruz, Kian Estolas, Emerson Brillo, and Izeah Jolo contributed one goal apiece. Francisco Furey Maratita averted a shutout loss for Mt. Carmel after hitting his target in the 23rd minute.
With another blowout win, Hopwood, which coasted to a 10-0 victory over Saipan International School during the league’s opening week, leads the standings in Group A.
SIS recovered from its season debut loss to Hopwood with a 6-2 triumph over Tanapag Middle School.
Moshel Sikkel powered the Geckos to its first win after drilling three goals. Taiga Namai-Scoggins chipped in two goals, while Sean Park added one. Sikkel registered a pair in the first half, scoring in the fifth and 16th minute, while he completed his hat-trick in the 26th. Tanapag, on the other hand, got its two goals from Nolan Ngewakl and Yutaka Kadokura.
Meanwhile, Group B games yesterday were canceled and will be rescheduled due to tropical storm watch. Chacha Oceanview Middle School was supposed to meet Francisco M. Sablan Middle School in the curtain-raiser, while Saipan Community School was slated to challenge Dandan Middle School.
