Hilitais, Tatagas defeat foes in MS girls soccer
The Hopwood Middle School Hilitais and Tanapag Middle School Tatagas defeated their respective foes in the girls middle school 2022-2023 NMIFA-PSS Interscholastic Soccer League played last week at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.
Hopwood Middle School secured a lopsided win against ChaCha Ocean View Middle School, 9-0 on Thursday, while the Tanapag Middle School Tatagas beat Francisco M. Sablan Middle School, 3-2, on Tuesday.
Led by the Hilitais’ Alyssa Borlongan, she almost single-footedly scored all of her team’s goals—with twice the hat-trick at 6—whereas the Lancherus could not score a single point.
Borlongan’s teammates Yelynn Ha and Kaye Ann Costales scored the three other goals and the game ended with a goose egg for the Lancherus.
In the Tatagas-Napu Riders game, they were both evenly matched, but the last-ditch effort by the Tatagas’ Xyriel Pascual broke the tie and secured the W in the 49th minute.
Napu Riders’ Kalia Mendiola and Selena Atalig scored their team’s two goals, while the Tatagas’ Hailey Benavente and Isabella Cruz scored the team’s first two goals.
Also on Thursday, Saipan International School won against FMS, 3-0.
The Geckos’ Beatrice Gross cobbled up all their goals and completed the hat-trick, which eventually sealed the deal against the silent Napu Riders.
In the first game on Tuesday, Dandan Middle School defeated ChaCha Ocean View Middle School, 2-0.
The Tottots’ Jahsmin Ramon scored the first goal in the 30th minute, while Kailani Laniyo scored the second in the 45th minute.
The Hilitais are on top of the standings with 2 wins and 1 draw; the Geckos have 1 win and 2 draws; TMS are at 1 win and 1 draw; FMS is at 1 win and 2 losses; DMS is at 1 win and 1 loss; while the COVMS are at 3 losses.
