Garapan, Koblerville triumph in soccer

Updated: Nov 26, 2021

GARAPAN and Koblerville elementary schools are off to a great start in the NMI Football Association-PSS Interscholastic Soccer League after clinching victories Wednesday at the NMI Soccer Training Center.

The players of Garapan Elementary School 2 had fun as they overpowered Saipan Community School 5-1.

Both teams had to get their feet wet in the first few minutes of the opening half, but after hitting the five-minute mark, GES 2 started to gain the upper hand with Kanoa Owens draining the first goal of the day.

The GES 2 offense continued to shine as Angel Calyag followed through with the team's second goal two minutes later while Owens delivered his second goal at the 19th minute mark to stretch the gap 3-0 by halftime.

Owens remained the biggest GES 2 threat in the second half as he quickly found the back of the net to complete the hat-trick.

SCS' relentlessness was finally rewarded at the 28th minute mark with Maria Haberman-Smith scoring a goal, but Owens was unstoppable and he delivered once again to seal his team’s victory 5-1.

KoES vs GTC

Koblerville Elementary School had a stellar performance against Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School.

The key to KoES' victory was the consistency of Napu Pangelinan. After seven minutes of play, Pangelinan drew first blood. Even with GTC picking up the pace defensively, Pangelinan applied more offensive pressure, completing a hat-trick with two goals at the 17th and 20th minute marks to widen his team’s lead 3-0.

GTC countered the KoES assault in the second half and limited Koblerville’s productivity to just one goal, but GTC remained scoreless and had to concede defeat, 0-4.

Joining the winner's circle were Saipan International School which defeated KoES 2, 6-0; William S. Reyes Elementary School which routed Mount Carmel School 11-0; and GES 1 which outscored San Vicente Elementary School 4-2.
