3-way tie in girls soccer

THERE’S a three-way tie in the girl’s high school division of the NMIFA-PSS Interscholastic Soccer League following the conclusion of Tuesday’s games at the NMI Soccer Training Center.

With two wins each, Saipan Southern High School, Marianas High School 1 and Saipan International School are sharing the top spot in the team standings.

MHS 1 bagged their second win of the season by defeating Kagman High School 9-2.

MHS 1 managed to set the tone early in the first half, firing five goals. Paulynn Joyce ignited the run with the first goal of the game at the 7th minute mark. Teamwork kept MHS 1 in control as they moved the ball exceptionally with Alyssya Angeles at the front line of the assault, draining the next three goals at the 12th, 16th and 17th minute marks for the hat-trick while team mate Tamia Kileleman-Hix followed up with another goal three minutes later to give MHS 1 a 5-0 advantage.

KHS reassessed their strategy during halftime and executed well going into the second half. At the 40th minute mark, Pia Ngewakl broke the silence for KHS while Janika Ogo scored the team’s second goal six minutes later to reduce the gap 2-5.

But that was the end of KHS’ rally.

MHS 1 quickly retaliated with Joyce connecting two goals within the next two minutes while Julie Capayas and Angeles chipped in one goal each at the 49th and 50th minute marks to secure the win against KHS, 9-2.

SSHS vs MHS 2

Saipan Southern High School collected their second win by demolishing MHS 2, 14-0.

SSHS’ Megan Elayda and Summer Manahane highlighted the first half with three goals each while team mate Neriah Lumbad’s solo shot put SSHS way ahead, 7-0.

They continued to showcase their finesse in the second half with Manahane and Elayda adding three and two goals respectively. Team mates Christina and Joselyn Atalig then joined the score board for a 14-0 blowout victory.

SIS vs THS

For their part, Saipan International School earned a double-digit victory over Tinian High School, 12-0.

SIS’ Audrey Castro led the pack with four goals while Aubrey Castro, Kaithlyn Chavez and Piper Clark contributed two goals each. Team mates Mimi Culp and Hestina Park added two more goals for an emphatic 12-0 win.
