Kanoa, Shirley’s still unbeaten

March 20, 2018

Shirley’s Football Club and Kanoa kept their undefeated records in the girls U16 division of the 2018 NMIFA Spring Youth League after earning shutout wins last Saturday at the Francisco M. Sablan Middle School Field.

Kanoa improved to a 4-0-0 win-draw-loss mark following a 4-0 victory over TanHoldings in the second game last weekend. Paulynn Grace Joyce made all four goals for Kanoa, which stayed on top of the team standings in the seven-squad field. Joyce scored in the 18th, 21st, 43rd, and 45th minute. In the final match of last weekend’s triple-header, Shirley’s ripped MP United, 6-0, to move up to third place, dislodging TanHoldings. Shirley’s now has a 2-1-0 card to lead TanHoldings (2-1-2) and inch closer against MP United (3-1-2).

Katrina Costales delivered a hat trick for Shirley’s with her first goal coming in right in the fourth minute and the last two made back-to-back, as she lit up the board in the 21st and 41st minute. The returning Jerlyn Castillo chipped in two, getting her first in the 12th and the second in the 60th minute, while Therize Millare contributed one after finding the back of the net in the 44th.

Meanwhile, the first game in the division had Southern United outclassing Matansa, 5-1.

It was Southern United’s first victory of the season after dropping its first three games, while Matansa is still without a win, absorbing its third loss.  Southern United opened a 2-0 halftime lead and remained on target in the second half to break its three-game losing skid. Keisha Deleon Guerrero knocked in the pair of goals for Southern United in the 18th and 33rd minute and made it three in a row with her shot in the 36th.

Matansa then cut the deficit to two, 1-3, when Jenelyn Palad ended the team’s drought in the 53rd minute, but Southern United got the one goal back quickly, as Isabelle Evangelista scored in the 54th. A goal from Winneb Echavez three minutes later kept Matansa in the game, however Deleon Guerrero struck anew in the 65th to give Southern United the insurance.
