Kanoa still unbeaten in girls U16

Updated: Nov 30, 2021

Kanoa Football Club won the battle of undefeated teams in the girls U16 division of the 2018 NMIFA Spring Youth League after downing MP United FC, 7-2, last Saturday at the Francisco M. Sablan Middle School Field. The victory was the third in as many games for Kanoa and gave the squad the solo lead in the seven-team field.

Again, Paulyn Joyce stood tall for Kanoa, as she scored four goals in the easy win. Sharmaine Francisco, Ericka Santiago, and Kiara Manganti chipped in one apiece, while MP United got its pair of goals from Stellalou McCallion and Audrey Castro. Kanoa opened a 3-0 lead against MP United at halftime and was never threatened in the second half. Joyce knocked in back-to-back goals in the first half with her first coming in the 21st minute and the second in the 28th. Manganti drew first blood for the winning squad in the 18th minute. Francisco then made it a 4-0 advantage when she hit the board five minutes into the second half, while Joyce earned a hat trick when she scored anew in the 52nd. MP United, on the other hand, broke its silence, thanks to McCallion’s shot three minutes later, while Castro’s goal came in the 59th. Kanoa, however, got the two goals back with Santiago finding her target in the 69th minute and Joyce closing out for the division leader a minute later.

In other results, the two other games at the FMS pitch ended in draws.

In the first match, Shirley’s FC forced a standoff with TanHoldings when Katrina Costales scored in the 49th minute. Earlier in the 18th minute, Mary Joy Aniana handed TanHoldings the shaky lead. In the final tiff last weekend, it was Paire which managed to tie Matansa, thanks to Anisa Villagomez’s conversion in the 39th minute. Villagomez’s equalizer was recorded seven minutes after Ellysah Serrano registered the first goal in the closely-fought match.

Meanwhile, Week 5 games in the division will be played this Saturday with Kanoa hoping to extend its winning run to four when it faces Southern United at 4pm. In the first match at 1pm, Paire will duel MP United, while in the second match at 2:30pm, it will be Matansa versus Shirley’s. TanHoldings takes a break in Week 5 and will return to action next weekend when it meets Kanoa.
