14th NMIFA Ordinary Congress
Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands
On October 24, 2024, the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association held the 14th NMIFA Ordinary Congress with NMIFA president Jerry Tan, Vice President Vickie Izuka, and Executive Committee Member Wesley Bogdan unanimously re-elected by the delegates of the NMIFA member clubs.
Tan, before the election, highlighted the continued growth of the NMI football program and credited the sport’s success for nearly two decades to the collaborative efforts by all stakeholders—parents, players, club leaders, volunteers, game officials, schools, the NMIFA staff, and sponsors.
“Let’s continue this journey together and do it for our children,” Tan said.
Izuka, for her part, said that the NMIFA is deeply grateful to the Asian Football Confederation, East Asian Football Federation, FIFA, and other international partners for their strong support that allows the NMIFA to offer programs and other opportunities to members of the NMI football community.
Present at the 14th NMIFA Ordinary Congress were Yasuko Takano, head of the East Asia Unit, AFC Member Association Division, NMIFA General Secretary Ross Zapanta, delegates of Kanoa Football Club, Latte FC, MP United FC, Matansa FC, Paire FC, and Shirley’s FC, and players and volunteers from the six member clubs. Joining Tan, Izuka, and Bogdan on the NMIFA Executive Committee and also attending the 14th NMIFA Ordinary Congress were Catherine Attao-Toves and Alex Sablan, who were elected in last year’s congress.
Around the League
Shirley’s Football Club cooked up a storm in two divisions of the TakeCare Youth Soccer League Fall 2024 at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville last Saturday.
Their U14 boys team was no match to Paire FC as they defeated them, 6-1.
Shirley’s controlled the ball and the game early on with a goal just five minutes in by Izaiah Haro. That set the tone for the rest of the match as they doubled their lead another five minutes later from a goal-hungry Haro.
